Charles Emile Reynaud
(8 December 18449 January 1918)

He was a french animator. 
Responsible for some of the first ever animations created.
Reynaud created the Praxinoscope in 1877
Théâtre Optique in December 1888.
on 28 October 1892 he projected the first animated film in public, Pauvre Pierrot, at the Musée Grévin in Paris.

 (February 11, 1847October 18, 1931)
He was an inventor of many things. 
He was not into animation as much as the other poeple on this time line. But he did contribute a lot to the world of animation.
He invented the phonograph
 He also invented the motion picture camera (Kinetograph)

Auguste Marie Louis Nicolas  
(19 October 1862 10 April 1954)
They patented the cinematograph.
 His first film, made with his brother,Sortie de l'usine Lumière de Lyon(1894) is considered the first true motion picture.

He was an American cartoonist and animator.
He is best known for the comic strip Little Nemo (1905)

He used Key framing animation (This means the animation moves more smoothly while playing. When moving from one point to another it will not look as slow. It will run through nicely)
between 1911 and 1921 he self-financed and animated ten films

He was an Polish Jewish American animator, inventor, film director and producer.
He is a pioneer in the development of animation.
He was head of Fleischer studies. 
He brought created the well know animated characters such as:

He was responsible for many inventions including the Rotoscope

Pat Sullivan
(22 February 188515 February 1933)
He was an Australian cartoonist, pioneer animator and film producer
He is best known for his creation of Felix the Cat
He refused to make Felix the cat with sound until he heard Mickey Mouse in sound and eventually gave in and put Felix the Cat into sound.

Walt Disney
(December 5, 1901December 15, 1966)
 He was an American entrepreneur, cartoonistanimatorvoice actor, and film producer.
He is said to be a cultural icon because of his work in animation
He is know for many different famous cartoon characters like Micky Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy. His cartoons revolutionised animation history. Walt disney is still one of the largest cartoon companies in the world. Having its own amusement park based around its characters. 
In January 1920, Disney and Iwerks formed a short-lived company called "Iwerks-Disney Commercial Artists".
Presented as "Newman Laugh-O-Grams", Disney's cartoons became widely popular in the Kansas City area.

Richard Oliver Postage
(12 April 1925 – 8 December 2008
He was an English animator, puppeteer and writer.
He was the creator and writer of some of Britain's most popular children's television programmes:
Pingwings

Bagpuss
Postgate wrote Alexander the Mouse, a story about a mouse born to be king. Using an Irish-produced magnetic system – on which animated characters were attached to a painted background, and then photographed through a 45-degree mirror.

Richard Williams 
 (born March 19, 1933)
He is a Canadian–British animator
He is best known for serving as animation director on Disney's Who Framed Roger Rabbit and for his unfinished feature film The Thief and the Cobbler.
He was also a film title sequence designer and animator; his most famous works in this field included the title sequences to What's New, Pussycat? (1965) and title and linking sequences in The Charge of the Light Brigade (1968)
He also animated the cartoon feline for two of the later Pink Panther films.

Nick Park
(born 6 December 1958)
He is an English animator, director and writer. 
He is best known as being the creator of Wallace and Gromit and Shaun the Sheep. 
In 1985, he joined the staff of Aardman Animations in Bristol, where he worked as an animator on commercial products 
By the beginning of 2010, Park had won 4 Academy Awards and had the distinction of having won an Oscar every time he had been nominated.

Mike Judge
(born October 17, 1962)
He is an American actor, animator, writer, producer, director, musician, and cartoonist. 
He created and starred in the animated television series Beavis and Butt-head(1993–1997, 2011), King of the Hill (1997–2010) and The Goode Family(2009) and co-created the television sitcom Silicon Valley (2014–present).
In 2005, Mike Judge was presented with the Austin Film Festival's Outstanding Television Writer Award

In this task we watched two adverts for selling toothpaste. In the first advert, it is viewed in a much old fashioned way but straight away briefly gives you a clear explanation and facts of how the toothpaste can benefit your teeth, gums and breath with show of a female member using the product on her teeth as well as the ingredients that the product contains which are effective and helpful towards your teeth & gums. They keep their audience intrigued by using such persuasive techniques as repetition; repeating the words tingly sensation to convey a type of fresh presence and backed up by the snowy nature around the actual product encaged in crystal clear ice cube surrounded by an elegant stream of water, suggesting how fresh and untarnished this toothpaste is. Also the use of stop-motion animation at the last scene with the ice gradually enclosing the product enhances the whole fresh significance. Whereas the second advert is presented in a modern way. We see how immediately a technology advice is used to scan a female member from the public audience, and then shows the hidden bacteria in her gums and then points out that she should use the new Colgate toothpaste.

Evaluation for advertisement


We first came up with the idea of having an advertisement of milkshake. We came up with the idea of a woman walking out of college back to her house. We see a group of men following her. Initially we think that they are following her because she is attractive but then it later becomes clear that they are following her because she has milkshake in her hand. The song we were going to have playing was going to be ‘milkshake’ by Elise. After a lot of thinking and planning we ended up changing all of our idea because we realised we could not get a group of guys all at the same time. And we couldn’t find a woman that was happy to come across as wanting the attention of men. We then changed the idea to advertise glasses. This was an easier advert as we only needed to film one person and this was easier because we could rely on him being available. The advert is effective. You understand what the advert is about and the fact that we are trying to promote specsavers. I am most proud of the camera work because there were no tripods available this day and this meant the camera work had to be done by hand. The camera work can come across as being a bit shaky but considering we had no tripod it is very impressive. The text added in during editing could have been a lot better. Maybe not moving past the screen so quickly. Because focusing on what is being said takes the viewer off watching what is happening in the advert. I think that our original idea would have turned out a lot more successful because we had planned it and worked out exactly how it was going to be filmed. This idea was a bit last minute so it was harder to film. But the end product was okay considering the little amount of time we had to change our plan.

task 6 advert review

The ASA is the UK’s independent regulator of advertising across all media. They make sure all advertisements are appropriate and decide weather they can be viewed by the public or not.


To make a complaint about an advertisement you find offensive you first have to check if your complaint is covered by the ASA. If your complaint is covered you can then submit it online, by telephone, text phone or write to the ASA. They will then assign a person who will be your point of contact. If the complaint is small like a minor mistake it will be resolved very quickly but if it is a bigger case then an investigation will have to take place. This means that the ASA council will rule on an outcome. Any adverts that are seen to be offensive will then be taken down.

This video starts out with many different celebrities saying what appears to be a bleeped out swear word. It then becomes apparent that the word they are saying is not a swear word but actually ‘famine’. The advert goes on to explain how bad famine was in 2011 and how it has to change. Later on in the advert some of the celebrities then goon to swear but it is covered up and bleeped out. 

This advert could be banned because it suggests the use of offensive language. And for parents who have younger children it could be seen as offensive because they do not want their children hearing that kind of language.

I think that this advert shouldn’t be banned because by bleeping out the word famine it is trying to explain to people that famine should be as obscure as swearing. We shouldn’t be aloud to say it because famine shouldn’t be happening. It is also quite shocking at the beginning this catches people attention and makes people aware of how shocking famine is. By using celebrities it also entices a younger audience to be more aware of what is happening in the world around them.

The reason that advertisement was banned is because they breeched the rules for political advertising.  The aim was to keep political propaganda off British television.

I do not believe that this advert should have been banned because although it is putting a political view across to the public it is clearly for the greater good. It is to try and help make people aware of the famine in Africa. As humans we are very selfish but being exposed to real problems that are happening in the world may make us less selfish and more likely to do something about the famine in other places. It is very important for people to understand what has happened in certain countries because of what man has done. There are plenty of supplies to go around the world. The point of the advert was for the people that are experiencing famine and to try and get people to understand it isn’t right. So I do not see how it would be used for political propaganda.

This advert was very effective and the fact that it was banned is ridiculous. It should be shown to more people. People do not need to be sheltered from what they have essentially caused.
